a brief overview of MPV training sessions

Usually, a training session lasts 1 week: from Monday to Friday plus the
following weekend.

Airfields that are most often used are Tarbes (Pyrenees), Condom (Gers),
Jaca (Spain), Millau, Rodez (Aveyron), Couhe (near Poitiers). Every year
MPV tries new airfields for its training sessions.

The number of participants is limited so that everyone can fly twice a
day (depending on the weather). On a larger training session up to 15
people can participate : therefore 1 cap232 and 2 cap10 are used.

A training session is not exclusive to experienced or advanced pilots :
all levels are welcome thanks to the instructors who attend the session
as well. Dual instruction is offered or solo flight with supervision
from the ground.

Depending on the needs (level, number of participants), 1 aeroplane can
be dispatched (cap232 or cap10), or 2 or the entire MPV fleet (1 cap232
and 2 cap10).

2 aerobatics axes are available during training sessions. The airfield
has an overhead axis that is used by pilots flying solo being supervised
from the ground. Thus they can train for aerobatics competitions.
Another axis, located within 5 minutes flight time, is used for dual
instruction. This allows 2 aircraft to fly aerobatics at the same time
so optimising the time during a training session.

Training sessions can be summed up as having 2 objectives. On the one
hand it helps pilots improving their skills and getting ready for
aerobatic competitions. On the other hand several flights enable a
beginner to learn faster and to obtain a fair level by the end of the
session. Sometimes ab-initio aerobatics pilots can fly solo by the end
of the week!

Lodging is provided in a hotel or B&B. Generally lunch consists of a
cold meal.

A training session does not cost much more than the regular flights. The
main cost is due to the flights (twice a day) plus lodging and meals.
Extra charges should be taken into account such as the cost of the
aeroplanes ferry flights from / back to Toulouse that is divided between
the participants and is of the order of €30. Finally the instructors are
volunteers, lodging / meals / expenses are refunded by the participants
and this represents around €20.
